Sir,

I have the honour to transmit for con- -gideration an application from Dr. J. T. C. Johnson, the Principal Civil Medical Officer in this Colony, for the appointment of Principal Medical Officer in the Uganda Protectorate which is understood to be vocant.

2.

Dr. Johnson was envious that an applica- -tion might be made by telegram at his expense and I there- -fore telegraphed to you on the 3rd. instant as follows:- "Johnson, Principal Civil Medical Officer, offers himself as candidate for Principal Medical Officer, Uganda Protectorate. Can be spared if successor sent without undue delay",

I have no objection to Dr Johnson being

3.

granted the appointment provided that there is not likely to be any undue delay in filling his post in this Colony. I have the honour to be,

Sir,

Your most obedient,

humble servant,

Governor,&c..
